An indication for surgery can often make patients feel uncertain and may, under certain circumstances, cause emotional distress. In such cases, we therefore offer the opportunity for patients to obtain a second opinion from our experienced neurosurgeons, regardless of where the indication was determined. As a result, the upcoming therapy strategy is usually looked at again objectively and this can be useful for both the patient and the referring doctor. However, we take the utmost care not to interrupt the existing chain of treatment if the indication for surgery is confirmed. If medically justified, we suggest conservative treatment alternatives to our patients, such as CT-assisted pain therapy.
